二级区划

澳大利亚各州下为地方议会（Local government area，英式议行合一），层级为单层。 截至2021年,新南州共设128个地方政府，另有2处无建制区域（分别位于豪勋爵岛和远西地区）。豪勋爵岛实际设有豪勋爵岛议会（Lord Howe Island Board），远西无建制区域有数个村庄，部分设有村委员会（village council）。本世纪2004年和2016年，新南州部分地方政府进行了合并。2004年调整后为152个地方政府，2016年调整后128个（不含豪勋爵岛和远西地区无建制地区）
